Donating Quilts to Tornado Victims in Oklahoma

Good Morning all,
A friend shared this information with me and wanted to pass it on.
If you are interested in donating a quilt to the tornado disaster victims in Oklahoma they can be sent to this quilt shop. They are coordinating quilt donations for the  relief organizations.

If you need to have a quilt top quilted to donate, let me know as I frequently donate my time and longarm quilting services for charity and would be happy to quilt a top for this specific charity.  You can contact me through my website.
http://www.longarmquiltingfromtheheart.com/

It would be a good idea to make a fabric tag for your quilt and put at least your name and the city where you live on it so they have some idea where they came from. Just sew it on the back at the bottom. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

ADDICTED TO QUILTING
She learned to quilt on MONDAY;
Her stitches all were fine.
She forgot to make us dinner,
So we all went out to dine.

She quilted miniatures on TUESDAY;
She says they are a must.
They really were quite lovely,
But she forgot to dust.

On WEDNESDAY, it was a sampler.
She says stippling's fun.
What highlights! What shadows!
But the laundry wasn't done.

Nine Patches were on THURSDAY -
Green, yellow, blue, and red.
I guess she really was engrossed;
She never made the bed.

It was wall hangings on FRIDAY,
In colors she adores.
It never bothered her at all
That crumbs were on the floor.

I found a maid on SATURDAY;
My week is now complete.
My wife can quilt the hours away;
The house will still be neat.

Well, now it's only SUNDAY.
I think I'm about to wilt.
I yelled, I raved, I ranted
'Cuz the maid has learned to QUILT!

Country Cottage Quilt Finished

Good Afternoon Friend's and Family,
Hope you are all having a wonderful summer. I'm suffering from the heat and allergies as is normal for me in the summer. But staying indoors has allowed me to work more on my sewing and quilting.

Here's a quilt I just finished quilting. The pattern is named Country Cottage by Donna Haas from The Quilter magazine, January 2009.  75" x 88" size. The blocks are 10". All cotton fabric wow and other pastel fabric with Fairfield 80/20 batting. I used Superior white Omni (Poly Core) thread and Quilter's Choice (poly wrapped poly) by Golden Threads in Pistachio Pudding.  Quilted free hand with my Micro Handles and ruler. This makes for very relaxed quilting as I can sit on my stool and enjoy what I'm doing. Keeps you close to your work. Quilted with feathers, pebbles, straight lines and SID  with a border design I don't even know the name of. The green border was a result of an idea I got off of Pinterest. This was my last completed top so I'm looking at some blocks now developing an idea for my next quilt.  Thanks for visiting today! Stop back soon.

If you are interested in having any tops longarm quilted, please visit my site at www.longarmquiltingfromtheheart.com for current specials.

Recent Quilting Projects

Recently I made a couple quilts to keep as samples of longarm quilting with Pantograph patterns I have.

The small baby sized quilt has cupcake flannel and a couple of other coordinating flannel fabrics which I quilted using the Feathered Roses pantograph. This is a small size quilt at 40" x 45" and didn't use a pattern. 100% cotton Flannel fabric and Fairfield 80/20 batting. The pantograph is a nice floral and feather pattern. Used Marathon upper thread and masterpiece in the bobbin. An unlikely pair that happened to be the perfect turquoise color but had perfect tension with this combination.

The other quilt is Lilac colored and made from some fabric I had for a while. Measures 60" x 80". The floral is Field of Dreams by Clothworks fabric, the peach colored fabric is Natures Pallette Bamboo by Michele Scott for Lyndhurst Studio Fabric  and some of the other are from JoAnns's.  Didn't have a pattern. Just cut a few blocks to make 10" blocks to get that stair step effect. All 100% cotton fabric. I used Fairfield 80/20 batting and the Antique Lace Pantograph pattern to quilt it.   I used dark blue with violet flowers for the backing.  Was not entirely happy with the quilting as I had an issue with thread breaking. Attribute this to the cone of poly core purple thread I bought at the local quilt shop. May not have been fresh.

The teapot block is for a swap I'm involved in. Not sure who the receiver will be as that name has not been drawn yet.

Have taken a few days off from sewing but plan to start a new project on Monday.

Thanks for visiting my block.

If you are interested in having any longarm quilting done, please visit my site at www.longarmquiltingfromtheheart.com. I have a special where you can get a Charity quilt quilted for free when you order quilting on another quilt from me until July 15th.

Happy Quilting!

Quilts Beyond Borders Chaity Request

Good morning all,
I know some of you also make quilts for Charities.
So Quilts beyond borders sent me this (I have longarm quilted for them) and thought I would share it with you. If you have time may-be you could make a quilt for them. I'm going to make at least one and hope may-be someone else will do the same. I really like this charity. You can follow their blog and see when they deliver the quilts and so on. The children have NOTHING and are so greatful for the quilts. They also accept donations of fabric scraps and the scraps only have to be larger than one inch. So if you need to clean up your stash they do really appreciate the help. They also accept donations to help with the quilting and delivery of the quilts if you are inclined to send money rather than make a quilt.
Thanks for visiting.
Quilts Beyond Borders has forged a new relationship with Orphan Outreach, located in Plano, TX. Orphan Outreach’s mission is to improve ”the lives of orphans and at-risk children in Guatemala, Honduras, Russia and India through early intervention, education and evangelism.” This is a similar mission shared by Quilts Beyond Borders, which has motivated the work we have done in countries in Africa, as well as Haiti, and Central America. We are grateful to have an opportunity to team up and help Orphan Outreach with an up-coming mission trip to Russia.
The Request
The organization has asked Quilts Beyond Borders to help fulfill a special need for 24 young Russian women, who will soon be graduating from the orphanage and moving into their own apartment. The 24 quilts need to be about 60 inches long and the style should be considered for a young woman, aged 17-20 years old.
As well, Orphan Outreach has requested 12 additional baby quilts for those girls who are currently pregnant. These quilts should be at least 36 inches by 48 inches.
The Deadline
We are asking Quilt Beyond Borders volunteers to commit to making one or more of these 36 quilts by Friday, August 31, 2012. This means the quilts need to be finished and ready to send no later than this date. Please email Quilts Beyond Borders to inform us of your commitment to completing one or more of these quilts by August 31, 2012. We will respond letting you know where you may send the quilt(s) once completed.
We thank you in advance for your willingness to continue your volunteerism with Quilts Beyond Borders. This is a new opportunity and country for Quilts Beyond Borders, and we cannot express our enthusiasm enough. We hope you are equally as excited about enriching the lives of young orphan women and children through your love of quilting.

"Cozy" Block for Pajama Game Quilt

Good afternoon all,
Welcome to my quilting and sewing blog.
Just finished one more appliqued block for the Pajama Game quilt I started last spring (2011). Only have two more blocks to applique and a few to piece and the largest portion will be done. This pattern is by Lizzie B Creative. It's the "Cozy" block. I used furry pink fabric with pink and white flannel to create the desired textures for this block. It's machine appliqued to green striped flannel and the letters are fabric with a tiny bit of glitter in it.
Thanks for visiting. Stop back soon.
Happy Quilting!

Hot Pink Daisy Quilt Completed

Good Afternoon all,
Finished quilting this quilt a few days ago. Made from Northcott fabric except the Chevron border fabric is from Robert Kaufman. Used Bubble gum pink Quilter's Choice (poly wrapped) thread on the top and pink bottom line in the bobbin.  Measures 69" x 58". Quilted with feathers and cross hatching in the daisy squares. Turned it to do the borders and am much happier when I use that method. Didn't have a pattern for this one. Just used my Accuquilt to cut the blocks I pieced.  This is the last top I have so guess I will be making some tops in the near future and in fact bought some fabric today.
Thanks for visiting and stop back soon.

Happy Quilting!

Sarah's Story Book - Girl's Quilt

Good Afternoon family and friends,
Just finished quilting this little girl's quilt. It measures 28 x 46". I made it from a piece of sweet fabric I got at the quilt fair in January.
It's called Sarah's Story Book by Beverlie Manson for Blue Hill Fabrics Pattern #7499. Cute little girl fabric. It sounds like a book panel. But it's actually higher quality fabric than most of those book panels and was intended to be a book.  100% cotton and I used Fairfield 80/20 batting and an all cotton backing of pink with tiny hearts. I added a little green and a pink (also hearts) border to it. I enjoyed quilting this one very much. Added some new techniques for me. Pebbles and cross hatching in the middle with fans in the corner's of the squares and pink flowers in the border.  I quilted this quilt completely with my micro handles free hand and used my small longarm ruler for the straight lines. I love quilting when I don't have to mark it.
This quilt reminded me of my niece named Sarah Beach. She's getting married soon so may-be this can be a baby quilt for her some time in the future.
Thanks for visiting and take a moment to view the pictures at the bottom of my blog from my etsy store. I added about 10 vintage items to the store today.

Great Tip-How to check your fabric's color stability

I no longer wash all my fabric before I start sewing. I don't like to sew it after the sizing is all removed by washing. But I do sometimes wonder if something is going to fade onto other fabric but I'm too lazy to go to the trouble of soaking a sample in water.
This is a great tip on quickly checking the fabric that someone shared with me.
"You can check the color stability by dipping a Q-tip in warm water and
rubbing the fabric. If no color shows it is probably color fast. I check
my fabric that way. If color shows on the Q-tip, I wash for sure. so far
have had no problems if the tip didn't show color and I choose not to wash
the fabric before the quilt is finished. "
Try it the next time you are preparing your fabic.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by my blog today.

Appliqued Teapot Block Swap Blocks

I'm doing a swap with some friends of appliqued teapot blocks. One name is drawn each month. We make a 12" square based on whatever colors the other person wants or maker's choice. Here are a couple of the teapot quilt blocks I have made so far. Cute project and fun to swap. Should have enough to make a quilt, wall hanging or a table runner when this swap is completed later in the year. I will add my blocks when my name is drawn. I'm enjoying this swap as it is a little different. These are the blocks I've sent so far.

Thanks for visiting today. Stop back soon and don't forget to visit my Longarm Quilting site if you are interested in having any quilting done.

Pinwheel Quilt-Hippie Baby April 2012

Good afternoon all,
Finished this flannel quilt the other day on my longarm quilting machine and thought I would take a moment to share it. It's 100% cotton flannel. I have stated calling it "Hippie Baby" because it has paisley, tye died pink, lime green, pink dots and all the colors I remember from the 60's in the Hippie days. The baby portion was because I was originally planning to make it smaller as in a baby quilt. No pattern used. I just used my Go die cutter and cut the triangles easily and the strips and so on. I used Fairfield 's 100% polyester high loft batting and really didn't like it. I just tried it for something different. It does give it a somewhat lighter feel to the overall quilt. I thought it was harder to quilt. The backing is also a marble flannel and I also used it to bind it. I pre-washed it. It shrunk 6" in length so I was glad I did.  I quilted it entirely using my Micro handles and rulers and a mylar stencil for the feathers. The quilting doesn't show as good in the pictures as I had hoped.  The pink squares have a large feather, hearts in the pink dotted sashing, small fill in the stripes and also did little loops in the paisley. Stitched in the ditch around the blocks. Anyway it was great to practice on and will find it a nice quilt to cuddle up with this winter. Measures 50" x 80".
Thanks for stopping by. Stop back soon.
